We started in 2016 with a specific problem in mind

Back then, Idris Tan was trying to install a rooftop solar system at his office in Kuala Lumpur. He found plenty of theoretical information online but almost nothing that explained how to actually size inverters for tropical humidity, calculate shading losses from nearby buildings, or navigate TNB interconnection requirements. The disconnect between textbook knowledge and practical implementation was frustrating. Most educational resources assumed ideal conditions that didn't exist in dense urban environments.

That gap led to Lyriconova. We built an online platform where working professionals could learn solar energy through detailed analysis of real installation scenarios. Our seminars don't just cover wattage calculations and efficiency ratings. They walk through actual project decisions: choosing between string inverters and microinverters for buildings with partial shade, understanding how monsoon weather patterns affect energy production forecasts, and interpreting utility tariff structures to calculate realistic payback periods. Participants work through case studies based on installations we've documented across Kuala Lumpur's commercial districts.

We launched with three core courses focused on residential and small commercial systems. Over the years, we added content on battery storage integration, grid-tied system monitoring, and maintenance protocols specific to high-humidity climates. Each course includes discussion forums where participants compare notes on supplier reliability, permitting experiences, and performance data from their own projects. The platform has become a space where people share practical knowledge that doesn't make it into manufacturer datasheets or government guidelines.

Today we're still based in Kuala Lumpur, serving learners who need technical depth without academic formality. Our courses assume you're already motivated and just need the specific information to make informed decisions about solar installations. We focus on the details that matter when you're actually spending money on equipment and dealing with local regulations. Nothing here promises to revolutionize your life or transform your career. We just try to provide the detailed technical information we couldn't find back in 2016 when this whole thing started.

People keeping everything running

Our team works remotely from different parts of Kuala Lumpur. Linus handles curriculum development and makes sure our technical content reflects current equipment standards and installation practices. Viktor runs the seminar discussions and brings field experience from years of actual solar installations. Both have been with Lyriconova since early on and understand the specific challenges our participants face when implementing renewable energy projects in urban environments.

How we got here

2016

Platform launch with basic residential courses

Started with three core courses covering residential system design, equipment selection, and installation fundamentals. Initial content focused on 3-7kW systems typical for Malaysian terrace houses and small offices. We documented twelve local installations to create realistic case studies showing actual costs, timelines, and performance data.

2018

Added commercial system content

Expanded course library to include larger commercial installations up to 100kW. Developed modules on three-phase systems, load management, and demand charge optimization. Started tracking long-term performance data from participating installations to show realistic degradation rates and maintenance requirements over two-year periods.

2020

Introduced battery storage and hybrid systems

Created detailed content on lithium battery integration, charge controller selection, and backup power configurations. Courses covered sizing battery banks for specific load profiles, understanding depth-of-discharge impacts on lifespan, and comparing grid-tied versus off-grid economics. Added real monitoring data showing actual backup performance during utility outages.

2023

Launched advanced monitoring and maintenance track

Developed courses on system monitoring platforms, inverter diagnostics, and preventive maintenance protocols. Content includes interpreting production data to identify underperforming panels, troubleshooting common issues like hot spots and connection failures, and establishing cleaning schedules based on local dust and pollution levels. We documented typical failure modes from 50+ installations over five years.

We continuously update courses as equipment standards change and new technologies become available.
